About Us

Saybrook Capital Corporation was founded in New York City in 1976 and merged with Argos Investment Counsel, LLC in 2007.

Saybrook is fully owned and operated by two principals, Scott Hirsch and Luke Babcock.  Both trained in a similar value-oriented approach and have focused their entire careers on investing.  They do their own independent research, make all investment decisions, and are committed to serving Saybrook clients.

Saybrook clients work directly with Luke and Scott, as well as an experienced and loyal support team that knows each client’s specific needs.

Biographies:

Luke M. Babcock joined Saybrook as an analyst in 2001 and became co-managing principal in 2007.

Previously, he worked at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette for eight years, overseeing asset allocation strategies for large portfolios. One of his prime responsibilities was to help entrepreneurs diversify investments after the technology companies they founded became publicly-traded.

He earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 2004 and graduated from Duke University in 1993, with a degree in History and Political Science.

Luke is a member of the CFA Institute. He has served on the boards of the Steinbeck House, Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, Peconic Landing, and Breakwater Sailing Center. Luke and his family live in Sag Harbor, NY.
 

Scott R. Hirsch joined Saybrook as a co-managing principal in 2007, after combining Argos Investment Counsel, which he established to manage investments for a group of successful New York families.

Previously, Scott was a portfolio manager in the private client department at Brown Brothers, Harriman & Co.  He trained in the Management Associate Program at Paine Webber Group and became an equity analyst and portfolio manager at the firm’s Mitchell Hutchins Asset Management subsidiary.

As a Fulbright scholar, Scott earned an M.A. degree in International History with a focus on Political Economy at Cambridge University in 1996.  He attended Oxford University and graduated from Bowdoin College magna cum laude in 1990.

Scott serves on the Board of Trustees of The Calhoun School, where he is a parent and graduate.  He is on the Board of Directors at Day & Meyer, Murray & Young Corp. (a closely held, multigenerational family business), and was a Governor and Treasurer of the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute.

Scott and his family live in New York City.

Accounts are separately managed and maintain individual positions in securities.

Saybrook does not custody investments for clients; assets are safe-guarded at banks or brokerage firms. 

Accounts are reconciled daily, and Saybrook provides full transparency.
